Trafford Council has approved plans to create a new Community Centre and Library in the centre of Hale and for new residential homes and retail space on the former library site on Leigh Road.
The decision reflects the determination of Hale Community Trust, working in partnership with Hillcrest Homes, to ensure that the public library service is protected for local residents. The approved plans will also enhance local community services with plans for a new community event space and café along with improved facilities for bowling club members, residents, senior citizens and community groups.
Said James Payne, Managing Director of Hillcrest Homes: “This is great news and a just reward for all the effort and commitment invested in developing the proposals for the new Community Centre and Library. This will be facilitated by development of our new homes on the current library site and we’re looking forward to creating this fantastic new facility for Hale residents and the wider community to enjoy.”
Grahame Elliot, Chairman of Hale Community Trust said: “We are absolutely delighted that this project has been given the go ahead. It is a significant step forward in creating a new community facility at the centre of Hale Village.
“HCT and Hillcrest Homes have worked tirelessly with local residents, community groups and businesses to ensure the plans for both the existing Hale Library site and the proposed new library development will provide significant benefit to local residents. For the first time, Hale will have a Community Centre enabling new and existing community groups to flourish. There will be a new state-of –the-art library and modern amenities for the whole community to use. The partnership will continue to ensure local residents are involved in the development process.
